We are beginning our 31st year for students at KHS to be involved in the district reading program, Books Are Habit Forming.  BAHF  has several components: open library, big buddy reading, SSR, Reading Counts and Battle of the Books. The goal of BAHF is to promote independent reading and make reading an everyday habit at KHS.   Over the past 30 years students at KHS have read a total of 257,246 books. (Yes, that is books not points awarded based on size and difficulty of books.)

At the end of the year awards assembly last May, we honored second grader Allyson R. for repeating as the top primary reader with a total of 390 books. We're so proud of you.  The entire elementary read a total of 4,633 books. Scholastic's Reading Counts now keeps track of the number of words read for the entire year.  We ended last school year with a total of 20,835,822 words read!

Since my semi-retirement and with the restrictions placed on the number of hours that I can work, the elementary teachers are now supervising open library.  They have set this year's open library for Tuesdays and an ending time of 4:30. Join them as they encourage children in their independent reading by providing a time and a place to read outside the school day.
