Mrs. Meyer’s 5th grade science class has been learning about cells. To help them better understand the different parts of the cell, they made cell models out of Jell-O and candy. The students used the Jell-O to represent the cytoplasm, a malted chocolate ball for the nucleus, a gummy worm for the mitochondria, and nerds for the chloroplasts. The students made the cells on Thursday and then checked them again on Friday after they had sat in the refrigerator overnight. After discussing the activity a little more and going over the function of each part of the cell, the students were excited to eat their cell models! This was a great learning experience for the student’s and they enjoyed being able to have fun while learning at the same time!
