Mrs. Meyer’s fourth, fifth, and sixth grade social studies classes have been learning how different countries celebrate Christmas the past two weeks by completing a Christmas Around the World Unit. They discovered the many traditions, foods, and events that are celebrated each Christmas in Germany, Australia, France, and Mexico. The students in each class discussed how our traditions here in the United States compare and differ from the others. On the student’s last day of the Christmas Around the World unit, they studied Mexico. Mrs. Meyer played traditional Mexican music for the students and they enjoyed the traditional Christmas snacks of buneulos (fried tortilla strips coated with cinnamon and sugar) and hot cocoa. The student’s really enjoyed this unit and can’t wait to do it again next year with different countries.
