Mrs. Meyer’s 5th grade class has been studying technological systems and how they are designed to meet people’s needs and improve their quality of life. As part of this unit, the students did a lesson on artificial hearts and how they function. Each student was responsible for designing their own artificial heart, following the criteria that an artificial heart must have in order to function properly. The students learned that the artificial hearts are not a permanent fix, but a temporary one that a person can use until a donor heart becomes available.
