What a FUN night at our Elementary Family Science Night! Families had a blast exploring science together by visiting each hands-on station! Students got to make erupting volcanoes, dig for fossils and gemstones, examine rocks and minerals, build marshmallow towers to test if they could withstand an “earthquake,” see erosion in action, create the layers of the Earth using cookies and candy, and even enjoy some “sand and dirt” (pudding and cookies, of course!).It was so great to see our students thinking like scientists by asking questions, making predictions, experimenting, and learning through discovery. Nights like this show that science isn’t just something we read about in a textbook. It’s something we can see, touch, and experience all around us every day!Thank you to all the families who came out to support our students and to everyone who helped make this night such a success. We loved sharing the excitement of science with our school community! ... See MoreSee Less

Congrats to Beau Linneman on being selected to play in the Missouri 8 Man Football Coaches Association All Star game! Beau is one of 50 seniors in the state to be selected for this and will be representing Team Red who is being coached by Jon Adwell, Dan Collins, Jordan Tyler, and Shane Hilton. At this All Star game, Beau will travel to Missouri Western State University where he'll practice for a couple of days with his team before playing in the All Star game on May 30th. Beau might be our first Thunder player to participate in this game. Ask anyone who's put on the pads, and they'll tell you to enjoy every chance you get to play because once it is over, you don't get that opportunity again. We'd love to get a group together to watch Beau put the pads on one last time so if any of our boys are interested in going, we can look into getting a bus or carpooling. More details to come later. Once again... Congrats Beau!Brunswick R-II School DistrictKeytesville R-III School DistrictNorthwestern R-I School ... See MoreSee Less

Today our 5th grade students wrapped up their unit on the rock cycle with a fun and tasty Starburst Rock Cycle Lab!Each student started with a paper plate labeled with the stages of the rock cycle: sediments, sedimentary, metamorphic, magma, and igneous. They cut their Starbursts into small pieces and used them to model how rocks change over time.Sediments: Students sprinkled a few small pieces on their plate to represent tiny rock particles.Sedimentary Rock: They pressed several pieces together to show how layers of sediment are compacted and cemented over time.Metamorphic Rock: Students rolled the pieces tightly into a ball to represent heat and pressure changing the rock.Magma: Since this step required heat, Mrs. Meyer helped by melting a few Starbursts on parchment paper to represent molten rock beneath Earth’s surface.Igneous Rock: Once the melted candy cooled and hardened, it formed an igneous rock.To finish the activity, students discussed how weathering and erosion can break igneous rock back down into sediments, allowing the rock cycle to start all over again.Lastly, the students enjoyed eating their rock formations! ... Today, Mrs. Meyer’s 6th grade science class wrapped up their unit on the water cycle by creating their very own terrariums! The class went out to the greenhouse for a fun, hands-on learning experience!Students learned that a terrarium can create its own mini water cycle. Water in the soil and plants evaporates into the air inside the container, then condenses on the sides or lid, forming tiny droplets. Those droplets eventually fall back down into the soil, just like precipitation, starting the cycle all over again!Mrs. Meyer would like to give a big thank you to Mrs. Monnig for allowing the class to use the FFA greenhouse, and to Mrs. Lisa for sharing her flower and plant expertise. She not only helped the students build their terrariums but also generously supplied the succulents for them! It was a great day of learning and fun! ... See MoreSee Less
