Mr. Foland's 7th grade science class has been working on Energy. Using paper roller coasters, the students demonstrated how potential and kinetic energy are impacted by things such as height, mass, and of course loops and curves. After demonstrating their understanding of these concepts, the students formed groups to create their coasters and then had the entire school vote on their favorites. We had over 100 votes from students and staff. The coaster, Cannonball Run, by Aidan, Brynlee, and Chloe won the contest with 40 votes. Today our 6th graders put their learning into action using the engineering design process in science class! Each group received a bag with 50 marshmallows and 50 spaghetti noodles and was challenged to solve a problem: build the tallest tower possible without it falling over.Students followed the steps of the design process as they identified the problem, discussed criteria and constraints, designed a plan, and worked together to build and revise their towers. Last night we held our Thunder Football and Cheerleading banquet in Keytesville! Families brought in sides and desserts and meat was cooked by Kicking Ash BBQ! We enjoyed great food, a fun video, and celebrated all of our athletes from Brunswick, Keytesville, and Northwestern. High School athletes were awarded with Lettermen jacket patches, pins, and certificates by Coaches Delinda Meyer, Ariel Gardner, Novy Foland, Shane Snodgrass, and Brandon Snodgrass. In addition to general awards, the coaches gave out special awards to their teams and the high school football players were also presented with their post season honors.
